23 August – After the rain

After the rain,
the ground is soaked
with rose confetti
and fallen fuchsia bells.
Heavy rudbeckia heads
half collapse themselves down
like folded umbrellas,
still dripping wet.
And the garden
smells of spice
as moisture polishes
the curry leaves
to sing their flavour
through the air
so deliciously
you can almost taste it,
after the rain.
