29 May – A few short hours

What a difference a day makes
to the humble mayfly
who must live its whole life,
then so quickly die
in a few short hours
that we so often while away,
forgetting the sum of some’s years
can finish in less than a day.

I don’t know how time feels
to the humble mayfly
but I do know this swift life
reminds me it flies by,
and not everyone is given
this many precious years,
so I should live them rich
in free-flowing laughter and tears.
